We wanted to bring your attention to an article in Psychology Today from Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Eric Newhouse on the use of EFT as a helpful technique for those with PTSD.
Here is some additional information to add context to the story from Dr. Robert Schwarz:
There have been 18 Randomized Controlled Trials using EFT or other Energy Psychology techniques in a variety of areas including PTSD. All of them have shown very positive results for these treatments. These have been reviewed by Dr David Feinstein and published in the Review of General Psychology (Feinstein, 2012. Acupoint Stimulation in Treating Psychological Disorders: Evidence of Efficacy.Review of General Psychology, Aug 20 , 2012, doi: 10.1037/a0028602).
While it is true that there have not been large clinical trials that cost several million dollars, there have been RCTs and there are many examples of practitioners like Dr. Connie Louie-Handleman who have had amazing results in live and uncontrolled situations.
Until recently, the APA had not allowed its CE providers to teach EFT or other EP methods to psychologists. Now that has changed as the APA just accepted ACEP as a provider of CE for psychologists — specifically allowing ACEP to teach EFT and other EP methods. This removes a hurdle for psychologists interested in getting training in this very promising approach.
